Handgun Training Basics

The tactical pistol classes here last two hours. These classes run in a three-course series (some take all three classes, some only one or two). We cover everything from the basics all the way through moving and shooting, reloads, using cover/concealment, and much more. Our goal in the later phases is to create a stress factor for our students in order to best simulate real-life shooting scenarios. Please don’t forget to bring a friend!

Phase I: Without a firm foundation you will never become a solid shooter Phase I is all about the basics. At the conclusion of this phase we will put a business card on a target edge toward you and you will split it in half!

Phase II: Phase II was built around the number one rule of gun fighting: “No one stands still.” Whether you are creating separation from your target, moving to find cover, or headed down a hall to secure your children, there is always somewhere to go. In Phase II we learn how to accomplish this task while engaging multiple targets and properly using cover lines.

Phase III: Our goal for the student in Phase III is to begin to operate his/her weapon system on a subconscious level, and the only effective way to do this is through high intensity training. Drills in phase three include scenarios such as: shooting from the driver’s seat of a vehicle (carjacking scenario), making speed and tactical reloads, distinguishing the target…the list is endless.

Phase IV: This course is all about the “unknown” aspect of gun fighting. When it comes to gun fighting, good old Mr. Henry usually tends to show up and wreak havoc. Equipment breaks, malfunctions occur, flashlight batteries go dead, etc. If you find yourself in a bad situation, being able to assess that situation while coming up with a plan of action under stress is very important in life. Phase IV is all about inducing stress.

Drills include: having to clear various pistol malfunctions while negotiating a shooting scenario, starting a scenario with one plan of action then having that scenario change and needing to come up with a new plan of action, knowing when to perform tactical reloads and executing speed reloads while under stress. This course will require students to put on the proverbial thinking cap.

Co-ed Classes: Co-ed courses are a great opportunity for guys and gals to train together in class. Guys and gals can bring their spouse or significant other. These classes make a great couples night out!

Ladies Only Classes: These are the same as the above mentioned courses with the exception that all the participants are ladies. These classess are a great opportunity for all you gals have fun and train together in class. So, get together with a group of gals, sign-up with a friend, or show up solo. You’ll have a good time and learn the skills needed to handle your firearm effectively in the matters of self defense.
